RTA needs to consistently apply speed limits across similar road types throughout the state. Multiple changes between 100km/h and 110km/h occur on the dual carriageway sections of the Pacific Highway. How can it be 100 on ual carriageway and 100 on single lane with no barrier between cars travelling in opposite directions? RTA policy must be to safely have the speed limit at a maximum, not a minimum. Safety improvements should be resulting in speed limit increases, not decreases. Surely technology advances between 1950 and 2010 mean that we can drive faster than 110 km/h safely? If driver behaviour and skills are the problem then make driver training more comprehensive. Since when did having a drivers license become a right? Set the standards and make people meet them. This is not an issue of “cost” it is an issue of being able to use roads for their purpose, ie) to go from A to B.
